It’s only recently that I started to appreciate a well-folded napkin at a place setting. I always understood the importance of what type of napkin should be used - preferably a linen, hemstitch napkin - but I didn’t think too much about fanciful folds. I always knew what I didn’t like: any type of fold where the napkin stands upright on a plate, such as a fan, cone, or rose shape. However, as I spent more time styling tables, the more I enjoyed getting creative with napkin folds. Below are the folds that I think are the most useful and fun. I’ve selected folds that aren’t too cheesy; however, the Christmas Tree Fold pushes the envelope just a bit. I hope my instructions inspire you to add a touch of flair to your table with a practical or fanciful napkin fold.
*Note: All of these folds are shown using a square napkin. Any other napkin shape will prove difficult or impossible to create even the most basic folds.
